United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres reaffirmed the UN’s unwavering support for Bangladesh in addressing the Rohingya crisis during a visit to Dhaka today.

Speaking at an event at the newly established UN House in Gulshan, he acknowledged Bangladesh’s ongoing efforts to provide shelter and humanitarian assistance to the displaced Rohingya population. He assured that the UN remains committed to standing by Bangladesh in seeking sustainable solutions to the crisis.

Guterres also commended the significant contributions of Bangladeshi peacekeepers to UN peacekeeping missions, highlighting their role in maintaining global stability and security.

During his visit, the UN chief met with the UN country team in Bangladesh and attended a photo exhibition commemorating 50 years of Bangladesh-UN relations. As part of the event, he hoisted the official UN flag, marking the inauguration of the UN Common Premises in Dhaka.

In a symbolic gesture, Guterres, along with Adviser for Industries, Housing, and Public Works Adilur Rahman Khan, jointly inaugurated the new UN House in Bangladesh. 

The event was attended by key dignitaries, including Environment, Forest, and Climate Change Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan and UN Resident Coordinator in Bangladesh Gwyn Lewis.

His visit also touched upon discussions regarding the interim government’s reform initiatives, reflecting the UN’s engagement in Bangladesh’s ongoing development efforts.
