Delhi leads global air pollution rankings, Dhaka sixth

Dhaka ranked sixth among 124 cities worldwide in terms of air pollution on Tuesday (March 18), according to data from Switzerland-based air quality monitoring platform IQAir.

At 10:00 am Bangladesh time, Dhaka recorded an air quality index (AQI) of 166.

Delhi, India, topped the global pollution rankings with an AQI score of 184, followed by Lahore, Pakistan, at 179. Dubai secured third place with a score of 174, while Kampala ranked fourth at 167. Cairo rounded out the top five with an AQI of 166.

According to AQI standards, a score between 0 and 50 is classified as 'good,' while 51 to 100 is 'moderate.' An AQI of 101 to 150 is deemed 'unhealthy' for sensitive groups, whereas 151 to 200 is considered 'unhealthy' for the general population.

AQI levels between 201 and 300 fall under the 'very unhealthy' category, prompting health advisories for children, the elderly, and those with pre-existing conditions to remain indoors. Readings from 301 to 400 are classified as 'hazardous,' posing severe health risks to residents.
