ARSA Chief, 5 others arrested in Narayanganj raid

Law enforcers in a raid arrested six people, including Myanmar-based armed group Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army’s (ARSA) chief, from Siddhirganj in Narayanganj. 

The arrestees are - Ataullah, 48, ARSA chief and son of late Maulvi Golam Sharif from Myanmar’s Rakhine state, along with Mostak Ahmed, 66, Moniruzzaman, 24, Salimullah, 27, his wife Asmaul Hosna, 23, and Md Hasan, 15.

During the arrest, police recovered Tk 21,39,100 in cash. 

Following their arrest, a case was filed at Siddhirganj police station on Tuesday (March 18).

Acting on a tip-off, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-11) conducted a raid in the Bhumipalli residential area early Monday (March 17) and arrested the suspects. 

They were later handed over to Siddhirganj police station.

According to case statement, the suspects were involved in subversive activities in Narayanganj, Mymensingh, and other areas. Police received intelligence report that they were holding secret meetings to plan sabotage. Based on this information, they were arrested.

Siddhirganj Police Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Shahinur Alam confirmed the matter. 

A case has been filed against six people, including five Rohingya nationals, and they have been sent to court.

Following the case, a Narayanganj court has placed Myanmar-based armed group Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) chief Ataullah and five others on a 10-day remand in two separate cases.

Senior Judicial Magistrate Mainuddin Kader passed the order today.
