250 get Primary Education medal

DHAKA: Some 250 persons including students, teachers were awarded with the Primary Education Medal on Sunday, in the opening ceremony of National Primary Education week.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the week and distributed the Primary Education Medal at Osmani Memorial Auditorium of the capital.

The medals were given based on the results of Primary School Certificate (PSC) exam of 2012 and 2013.

Ministry sources said Mushiganj deputy commissioner Saiful Hasan Badal was awarded as best deputy commissioner of 2013.

Harun ar Rashid Hawlader, Dumki upazila chairman of Patuakali district, was selected as best chairman.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Biyanibazar, Sylhet Shahidul Islam Chowdhury, was awarded as best UNO, district primary education officer of Tangail Syeda Mahfuza Begum, as best district primary education officer, and upazila primary education officer of Rangpur sadar SM Arshad as best upazila primary education officer.

Dupchanchia Government Primary School of Bogra was awarded as best primary school.

Najrul Islam of Khilda Government Primary School of Kalihati of Tangail and Shahnaj Parvin of Sherpur Sadar Model Government Primary School of Bogra was awarded as best teachers.

Subrata Kumar Banik of Jessore was awarded as best district primary education officer based on the PSC result of 2013.

Mostafizur Rahman of Jessore was awarded as best deputy commissioner of 2012. Abdur Rahman of Feni sadar and Shahin Ahmed of Keraniganj, Dhaka were selected as best upazila chairmen.

Hasina Begum of Sonamari, Noakhali was awarded as best UNO while teacher M Musa of Ektiarpur Government Primary School, Pirganj of Thakurgaon and Rekha Rani Datta of Manoharpur Adarsha Government Primary School in Comilla sadar were awarded as best teachers of 2012.

The National Primary Education week began from March 9, with the slogan of “Education is the origin of life, dropping out is the blunder.”

Ministry of Primary and Mass Education chalked out various programs on this occasion of the Primary Education week.

The officials of the ministry said the premier declares the upgradation of the headmaster posts to second class government officer.

Primary and Mass Education Minister Advocate Mostafizur Rahman along with Director-General of Primary Education Department and other high officials of the ministry, among others, were present in the program.
