The International Crimes Tribunal has issued arrest warrants against former minister Hasan Mahmud, former deputy minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Naufel, former Chattogram city mayor A J M Nasir, and 12 others over the killing of student Wasim and others during the July Movement in Chattogram.
The three-member tribunal panel, led by Chairman Justice Md. Golam Mortuza Mojumdar, passed the order on Tuesday (March 25).
The other two members of the panel are Justice Md. Shafiul Alam Mahmud and retired district and sessions judge Md. Mohitul Haque Enam Chowdhury.
Chief Prosecutor Md. Tazul Islam told reporters that they had submitted two petitions seeking production warrants and arrest warrants.
He said that leaders and activists of the Awami League, Jubo League, and Chhatra League were involved in the killings during the July Movement in Chattogram.
The investigation agency identified the accused through field-level inquiries, video footage analysis, and newspaper reports, he added.
Additionally, one more accused, Firoz, who is already in jail in another case, was shown arrested in this case upon the prosecution’s request.
Tazul Islam also said that the tribunal has extended the investigation period for two months in the Mohammadpur murder case, where an Ansar member, Omar Faruq, allegedly shot and killed a person without provocation. Faruq, who was brought before the tribunal, has been sent to jail by court order.
