The government will preserve the Independence Award of writer and intellectual Badruddin Umar at the National Museum after he declined to accept it.
Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus handed over the awards to the recipients' family members and representatives at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium on Tuesday (March 25).
Since Badruddin Umar did not accept the award, his honorary crest will be stored at the National Museum, the chief adviser announced.
This year, seven distinguished individuals were nominated for the Independence Award.
Shortly after the list was published earlier this month, Badruddin Umar through a press release said that he would not accept the award.
