Members of police have arrested a group of people who carried out an alleged robbery at a house in Dhaka’s Dhanmondi early Wednesday (March 26).
The criminals disguised themselves as members of law enforcement, intelligence officers, informants, a magistrate, and even student representatives to execute their plan.
The arrestees are - Farhad Bin Mosharraf, 33, Yasin Hasan, 22, Mobashwer Ahammed, 23, and Wakil Mahmud, 26.
According to police, the arrestees were first nabbed by the local residents and victims, later, physically assaulted them before handing them over to the police.
Police said their primary objective was to seize a substantial stash of gold and cash believed to be concealed within a six-story building owned by MA Hannan, the proprietor of Alankar Niketan Jewellers in Bashundhara City.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (Dhanmondi Zone) Shah Mostafa Tariquzzaman said around 20 to 25 robbers stormed the house on Road No. 8 in Dhanmondi, some wearing RAB uniforms. The gang looted nearly Tk 25 lakh and gold ornaments before escaping.
Law enforcers are investigating the incident, he said.
Masud Alam, Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Ramna Division, during a press briefing at the DMP Media Center said the perpetrators introduced themselves as law enforcement officers, a magistrate, journalists, informants, and students to gain access to the building under the pretense of conducting a raid.
