A Dhaka court today sentenced controversial contractor Golam Kibria Shamim, alias GK Shamim, to five and a half years in jail for amassing illegal wealth. 

Judge Md Robiul Alam of Dhaka Special Judge Court-4 passed the judgement.

The court fined the convict Tk one lakh, in default, to suffer three months more in jail. 

The court also ordered to seize Tk 297.08 crore of the convict in favor of the state.

Shamim's mother, Ayesha Akter, was acquitted of all charges. 

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) had filed the case against them in 2019, with a charge sheet submitted in 2020. 

The trial officially began in 2022.
