20 injured in Rangpur clash, highway blocked

RANGPUR: At least 20 people were injured in a clash between truck drivers and toll collectors of Rangpur City Corporation in Babukha area of the district on Monday noon.

Sources said that the toll collectors of City Corporation went to collect TK 50 toll but truck drivers refused to pay the toll. At one stage of altercation, both the groups locked into clash at around 12:00pm, leaving 20 people injured.

Following the clash, truckers put blockade on Rangpur-Dinajpur highway that halted road link of the Rangpur with four districts –Dinajpur, Thakurgaon, Panchgarh and Nilphamari.

Later, the drivers withdrew their blockade after getting assurance of removal the toll system.

Katwali Thana Officer-in-Charge Abdul Kader Zilani confirmed the matter to banglanews.
