Eid train journey smooth as ticket black market prevented: Adviser

Home Affairs Adviser Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has praised the smoothness of this year’s Eid travel, attributing it to a zero-tolerance approach towards corruption and the end of the train ticket black market.

Speaking to reporters after a visit to Kamalapur Railway Station on Sunday (March 30), the adviser assured the people that trains were operating on schedule.

"Our trains are leaving on time, and there is no black market for tickets this year, as confirmed by passengers," he said.

Chowdhury said that purchasing tickets had been straightforward for travelers, with 25 percent of passengers given standing tickets, a practice put in place for Eid.

"This arrangement is made to accommodate the increased demand during the holiday period," he explained, responding to concerns about standing passengers.

Addressing the issue of passengers traveling on train roofs, the adviser reiterated that such practices were prohibited.

"We are doing everything possible to prevent passengers from climbing onto the roofs. It is a dangerous practice, especially when people attempt to pull others down, leading to accidents," he said, urging greater awareness among travelers.

In response to concerns about corruption, Chowdhury affirmed that railway officials were closely monitored to ensure no involvement with black marketers.

"This year, we’ve maintained a strict stance on corruption. Not a single employee has been linked to the black market," he said.

When asked about potential security threats surrounding Eid gatherings, Chowdhury reassured the public, saying, "There is no threat of any kind. Both the people and law enforcement agencies are highly vigilant to ensure a peaceful Eid celebration."
