HC for separate van for women prisoners

DHAKA: The High Court on Monday ordered to use separate vehicle for carrying women prisoners in ensuring their security.

An HC bench comprising Justice Kazi Reza Ul Haque and Justice ABM Altaf Hossain passed the interim order after a writ petition filed for public interest.

The court also issued a rule to explain within four weeks why the court it should be issued to carry women prisoners in separate vans around the country to prevent sexual harassment.

Home sectary, Inspector General of Police and Inspector General (Prison) were made respondents to the rule.

On March 9, a report was published on a national daily titled ‘females prisoners are being oppressed in prison vans’.

Barrister Ruhul Kuddus Kajol filed the writ petition with the court for public interest.

Barrister Ruhul Kuddus Kajol and SM Jafar Sadique Tanvir moved for the petition in the court while deputy attorney general Biswajit Roy was the prosecutor.
