Online media policy needed

CHITTAGONG: Speakers at a seminar stressed to bring the online media under legal frame and hoped that emerging online media would reflect the people’s light of hope.   

The seminar titled ‘Online Journalism in Bangladesh: Legal Aspect in Global Perspective’ organized by Law Department at Premier University run by Chittagong City Corporation on Monday.  
   
Addressing the seminar, Dr Anupan Sen, vice-chancellor of the renowned university, in his speech as chief guest urged the online media to work by the inspiration of education and March.   

He said at present online media is not only providing news but also providing literature with standard poems, essays, sort stories and novels.
    
Chittagong University pro vice-chancellor Dr Iftekhar Uddin Chowdhury opined that online media should be brought under act and ethics as it can spread propaganda in a hurry.   

Addressing the seminar, Editor-in-Chief of banglanews24.com Alamgir Hossain discussed in detail online media, policy and journalism in line with his vast experience in the field.   

He said print media has a policy but many print media does not obey it. “So, by forming a policy on online media, it is necessary to apply it appropriately,” he said.   

Regarding booming of online media, he said there are many print media in the country and a large number of trees have been cutting for newspaper and it is affected our environment.

On the other hand, online media has noting to destroy the environment rather is save the environment from many kinds of pollutions, he observed.    

Alamgir Hossain also said citizen journalism is becoming popular day by day. “We are trying to fix the event as it has already become popular in print media,” the senior journalist said.   

He urged the newsmen to keep away them from all the self interests and be committed for the greater interest of the country.    

With chairperson of the Law Department Nur Mohammad in the chair, the seminar was also addressed, among others, by banglanews Head of News Mahmood Menon and CHT land secretary Mahbubur Rahman.
