Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus today (April 13) extended his greetings to the nation ahead of Pahela Baishakh, describing it as a powerful symbol of unity and harmony among the people of Bangladesh.
He said: "Pahela Baishakh, which we will celebrate tomorrow, stands as a reflection of our shared harmony. People from all walks of life will observe the day in their own ways, honoring their individual customs. Yet, everyone will take part in this universal celebration."
The CA was addressing a Sampriti assembly after laying the foundation stone of Sampriti Bhaban.
He also said despite differences in faith, culture, and traditions, the people of Bangladesh form one united family.
"Our nation is home to Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists, Christians, and numerous indigenous communities from both the hills and the plains—each contributing with their unique languages, cultures, and traditions," he said.
The event, held at the International Buddhist Monastery in the capital, also featured speeches from Religious Affairs Adviser Dr AFM Khalid Hossain, Chattogram Hill Tracts Affairs Adviser Supradip Chakma, Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman, Religious Secretary AKM Aftab Hossain Pramanik, Professor Dr Sukomal Barua of the Bangladesh Buddhist Federation Advisory Council (Acting Chairman), and Deputy Chief of the International Buddhist Monastery Ven. Bhikkhu Sunandapriya.
The programme was organized by the Bangladesh Buddhist Federation and presided over by Venerable Dharmapriya Mahathera, Deputy Chief Patriarch of the Bangladesh Buddhist Sangha Council.
