Japan consortium to run Dhaka airport’s 3rd terminal for 15 Years

A Japanese consortium, comprising two government agencies and four private firms, is set to operate and maintain the newly built Terminal 3 at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka for 15 years.

The final agreement is expected to be signed within a month, according to officials at the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB).

Sumitomo Corporation will lead the consortium, which includes Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

The agreement will follow the public-private partnership (PPP) model.

However, the operator will not be able to start commercial operations immediately after the signing. It may take six to eight months to complete necessary preparations.

CAAB Chairman Air Vice Marshal M Mafidur Rahman while talking to a media said the agreement is at the final stage.

“We are hopeful to begin operations within five to six months of signing the deal,” he added.
