Police have recovered the bodies of a husband and wife from a house in the Kornakathi area of Char Kaua Union, Barishal Sadar Upazila.

The deceased were identified as Rahat Howlader, 28, and his wife, Lamia Akter, 21, residents of the Eastern Kornakathi village.

The bodies were discovered around 12:00 PM on Monday (April 14), confirmed Officer-in-Charge (OC) Rofiqul Islam of the Bandar Police Station.

OC Rofiqul Islam said that Rahat had been living with his wife and parents in a one-story house. 

According to him, the couple did not emerge from their room by 8:00 AM. After repeated calls went unanswered, family members broke open the door and found Rahat hanging from the ceiling fan and Lamia lying dead on the bed. 

According to locals Rahat may have killed his wife before taking his own life due to domestic disputes.

The exact cause of death is yet to be determined, pending the autopsy report, he said.

A thorough investigation would determine the exact cause of death once the probe is completed, OC added.
