Nobel Peace Prize laureate and economist Dr. Muhammad Yunus has been named in Time magazine’s list of 100 most influential people in the world.
The prestigious US-based magazine recognised Dr. Yunus not only for his contributions to the economic sector but also for his role as a symbol of social change and humanitarian leadership.
Recently, he has gained increased attention in Bangladesh's political landscape. With growing public demand for fair and humane leadership following mass student-led movements, Dr. Yunus has emerged as a guiding figure for democratic transition, according to the magazine.
In its report, Time highlighted his pioneering role in founding Grameen Bank, spreading the microcredit model globally, and empowering women through financial inclusion.
Former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, in an article for Time, praised Dr. Yunus and wrote, “He did more than launch an economic revolution — he brought hope to the lives of marginalized people across the world. Now, he is playing a crucial role in Bangladesh’s democratic journey.”
“This recognition is a source of pride for Bangladesh and an inspiration for the future,” she added.
