The Swedish Embassy in Dhaka has highlighted progress made in workplace safety and health in Bangladesh’s garment sector, while remembering the victims and families affected by the Rana Plaza tragedy.

The Embassy is observing the 12th anniversary of the Rana Plaza tragedy on Thursday (April 24).

In an official message, the embassy said, “Today marks 12 years since the Rana Plaza accident. We remember all the victims and their families who were affected by this tragic event.”

The embassy also underscored the progress made in workplace safety and health, especially in Bangladesh’s garment sector. It said that Sweden continues to support Bangladesh in improving factory safety standards through the International Labour Organization (ILO).

“Sweden is helping ensure safe working conditions in line with international labour standards, including using digital tools for factory inspections,” the statement added.
