DHAKA: The voting in the third phase of upazila parishad elections is underway at 81 upazilas in 41 districts of the country on Saturday amid several incidents of violence.
People started casting their votes at 8:00am and will continue till 4:00pm without any break.
However, a person was killed in Bagerhat, few journalists were assaulted and several clashes between supporters of Awami League and BNP-backed candidates were reported across the country.
Army personnel were deployed from Thursday to keep the law-and-order situation normal in election areas. They will be kept deployed till Sunday.
The army personnel are discharging their duties as like in the previous elections.
The polls were scheduled to be held at 83 upazilas but election commission had postponed polls in Sreepur upazila of Gazipur district due to violence and polls in Fenchuganj of Sylhet district due the problem of area demarcation.
