DHAKA: Detective Branch police arrested 11 more members of Jamaatul Mujahidin Bangladesh (JMB) on Friday night from the city for their suspected involvement in the snatching of three condemned militants from a prison van in Trishal.
DB police sources said that conducting a special drive the 11 JMB members were held from different places of the capital city with huge explosives and a motorcycle.
Confirming the matter to banglanews, Assistant Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (Media Wing) Abu Yusuf said that the detainees admitted their involvement in killing police constable and snatching three convicted militants from prison van in Trishal earlier.
A group of JMB men attacked the prison van with guns and bombs, and snatched away three JMB convicts, killing one policeman and injuring two others on February 23.
Two of the freed convicts -- Rakibul Hasan Russel and Salahuddin Salehin alias Sunny --were on death row. The other -- Jahidul Islam alias Bomaru Mizan-- was serving life term.
Hours after the attack, Mizan was captured from Tangail and later killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police.
