Five people were killed and another critically injured in a collision between a pickup van and a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw in Rangamati district this morning (April 26), police said,

The deceased have been identified as Torap of Chowdhury Para in Raujan, Chattogram; Nur Nahar of Paschim Monairtek in Kaukhali, Rangamati; and Mahmudur Rahman of Chattarghat in Hathazari, Chattogram. The identities of the two other victims have not yet been confirmed.

Locals said the victims were travelling to Chattogram in the auto-rickshaw when it collided head-on with a pickup van and overturned. Three people died at the scene, while two others succumbed to their injuries while being taken to a nearby hospital.

Another passenger, critically injured, is being transferred to Chattogram for advanced treatment.

Rangamati Additional Superintendent of Police Maruf Ahmed confirmed the incident.

He said that more details would be shared once the police investigation team returns from the site.
