Mild to moderate heatwave sweeps parts of Bangladesh

A mild to moderate heatwave is currently sweeping across parts of Bangladesh and is expected to persist, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) said today (April 26).

In a weather bulletin issued at 9:00am, the BMD said the heatwave is affecting Rajshahi division along with Dinajpur, Jashore, and Chuadanga districts.

Meanwhile, rain or thundershowers accompanied by lightning and temporary gusty winds are likely at isolated places over Rangpur, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions, the forecast added.

Elsewhere, the weather is expected to remain mainly dry with partly cloudy skies.

Day and night temperatures across the country are likely to remain largely unchanged.

On Friday, the highest temperature was recorded at 39.0 degrees Celsius in Rajshahi, while the lowest temperature on Saturday was 21.5 degrees Celsius in Sylhet.

In Dhaka, the sun will set at 6:25pm today and rise at 5:27am tomorrow, according to the BMD.
