SAVAR (DHAKA): Around five thousands readymade garment workers of a sweater factory protested on a demand of opening the closed factory in Savar municipal area of the district on Saturday morning.

Witnesses said that the agitated RMG workers of Dynamic Sweater staged a demonstration in front of the factory in the morning to meet their 10-point demands including wage hike, production bonus and opening the closed factory.

At one stage of the protest, they vandalized the factory and blocked Dhaka-Aricha highway.

On information, police rushed to the place and tried to disperse them.

The RMG workers hurled bricks-chips aiming police, in reply, police fireed rubber bullets, tear shells and charged batons, leaving at least 50 workers injured.

However, after an hour’s effort police took the situation under their control.

Confirming the matter, Officer-in-Charge of Industrial Police of Savar said that additional law enforcers were deployed in the area to avert further untoward situations.
