Poll violence kills 3 in 3 dists

DHAKA:  Three people were killed in separate violence at Madon upazila of Netrokona district, Sadar upazila of Bagerhat district and Naria upazila of Shariatpur district during the third phase upazila polls on Saturday.

The deceased were identified as Menu Mia, 38, of Agpara village of Madon upazila of Netrakona, Manjurul Islam, 22, a college student and resident of the area and Ripon Majhi, 23, son of Monsur Majhi, hailed from Bhumkhara village of Shariatpur district.

Banglanews Netrokona correspondent reports: A person was killed and four others were injured in upazila polls violence at Fatehpur union under Madon upazila of the district on Saturday.

Sources said that two groups of people locked into a clash over establishing supremacy in the area in the morning, leaving Menu injured critically on the spot.

He was rushed to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Officer-in-Charge of Madan Thana SM Mofijul Islam confirmed the matter to banglanews.

Banglanews Bagerhat correspondent reports: A college student was killed in upazila polls violence in Meghnitola area under Sadar upazila of the district on Saturday morning.

Sources said that two groups of people locked into a clash over establishing supremacy in the area around 9:30am, leaving Manjurul dead on the spot.

Officer-in-Charge of Bagerhat Sadar Thana Ali Ajat Khan confirmed the matter to banglanews.

Banglanews Shariatpur Correspondent reports: A man was shot dead as police opened fire while he was trying to flee to after snatching away ballot box in Bhumkhara Government Primary School under Naria upazila of the district on Saturday.

The deceased was identified as Ripon Majhi, 23, son of Monsur Majhi, hailed from Bhumkhara village.

Witnesses said that a gang of miscreant tried to snatch ballot box around 4:00pm. Police opened fire to protect the public property after Presiding Officer ordered, leaving the man injured critically.

Later, the fatally injured was rushed to Shariatpur Sadar Hospital where doctor declared him dead.

Resident Medical Officer (RMO) of Shariatpur Sadar Hospital confirmed the matter to banglanews.

On information, Additional Police Super Ehsan and other high officials visited the spot.
