DHAKA: Officer-in-Charge of Bakerganj Thana Nurul Islam assaulted an assistant returning officer at Hizla upazila in Barisal district on Saturday noon.

The victim is Assistant Returning Officer and Upazila Election Officer Jahidul Islam.

Returning Officer Dulal Talukdar made the allegation following the incident to Election Commission around 2:00pm.

The returning officer said the OC assaulted Jahidul Islam and he was got out from the voting center of Hizla Government Primary School.

Following the incident, Barisal Police Super ordered to withdraw the OC and Additional Police Super Jahangir Mallik was directed to visit the spot.

Earlier in the day, the voting in the third phase of upazila parisad elections ended at 81 upazilas in 41 districts of the country, amid violence and vote rigging.
