All five victims die in Gazipur gas leak explosion

All five people injured in a gas leak explosion in Gazipur have died, with the last victim, a 10-year-old girl named Tanjila, succumbing to her injuries on Sunday night.

Dr Md Shaon Bin Rahman, resident surgeon at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, confirmed her death.

He said Tanjila had suffered burns on 90 percent of her body. “She died around 11pm on Sunday while undergoing treatment,” he said.

Tanjila’s mother, who was five months pregnant, died earlier while receiving treatment for injuries sustained in the same incident. The explosion ultimately claimed the lives of all five victims.

The blast occurred around 7pm on April 27 at a residence in the Mogarkhal area under Basan Police Station in Gazipur. The victims were identified as Taslima Akhter (30), her daughter Tanjila (10), tenants Sima (30) and Parveen (35), and Parveen’s 18-month-old son Ayan.

Ayan’s uncle, Arif Hossain, said their family is originally from Gazaria upazila in Munshiganj. Ayan’s father, Mazharul Islam, works in a garment factory, while his mother, Parveen, was a housewife.

Parveen was at home cooking with her son when the explosion occurred, reportedly caused by a gas line leak.

All five victims were burned in the blast and initially taken to a local hospital before being transferred to Dhaka for specialized treatment.
