A total of 66 Indian nationals have been pushed into Bangladesh through three border points in Matiranga and Panchhari upazilas of Khagrachhari district, allegedly by India’s Border Security Force (BSF).
The push-in took place early Wednesday (May 7), according to local sources and officials.
Among the Indian citizens, most are women and children belonging to three families. Around 27 of them crossed into Bangladesh through the South Shantipur border in Gumti union of Matiranga upazila in the early hours.
After entering, they reportedly took shelter at the house of a local resident, Abu Taher. Later, they were shifted to the residence of Abul Hossain, a local union member.
On the same day at night, 15 more Indian nationals crossed through the Taindong border in Matiranga, and 24 others came in through the Logang border point in Panchhari.
All of them are now under the custody of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).
Khagrachhari’s acting Deputy Commissioner Nazmun Ara Sultana confirming the matter, said, “It is true that Indian nationals were pushed in. So far, 66 people have entered through the three border points.”
Local authorities are in communication with higher officials regarding the next steps.
