2 JMB militants on 10-day remand

MYMENSING: A Mymensingh court on Tuesday placed two members of Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) on a 10-day remand for their alleged involvement in killing police constable and militant-snatching incident of Trishal upazila.

The accused are JMB members Jakaria, 30, hailed from Chapainawabganj and Rasel, 35, from Shariatpur district.

On February 24, a gang of armed militants with a microbus ambushed the prison van on highway in Mymensingh’s Trishal Upazila.

They, at one stage, opened fire at the police, killing a constable on the spot and leaving two others critically injured and snatched away three convicts from the prison van.

Later, Detective Branch of Police held Rasel and Jakaria with fire arms and exploitive materials from Tangail.

Mymensingh District DB Police filed a case with Bhaluka Model Thana in this connection.

On Tuesday, Mymensingh court magistrate Ahsan Habib granted the remand plea for 10 days.

Officer-in-Charge of Mymensingh DB Police Mazedur Rahman said the accused would be quizzed from Wednesday.
