672 patients at ICDDR,B in 24-hr

FROM ICDDR,B (DHAKA): Some 672 people got admitted at International Center for Diarrheal Disease Research, Bangladesh (ICDDR,B) in last 24 hours as diarrhoea situation worsened in the capital due to extreme hot and humid weather.

In a visit to the hospital, it was seen 282 people rushed to the hospital at Mohakhali from Sunday 12:00am to 1:00pm which indicates average 22 patients are taking admission per hour.  

In these circumstances, hospital authorities have set up an extra ward and tent to control the situation.

The hospital authorities told banglanews that the situation is better than last week, but yet not satisfactory.

They added that the majority of the patients are from Baridhara, Gulshan, Lalbagh, Jatrabari, Tejgaon and Mirpur areas.

Doctors suggested to drink only bottled water even for tooth brushing, to avoid eating food from street vendors, avoiding ice made with tap water, to eat only those fruits or vegetables that are cooked or can be peeled, to become sure that all foods are thoroughly cooked and served steaming hot, never to eat raw or undercooked meat or seafood, to obtain a hepatitis A vaccination prior to travel.
