Dhaka ranked first among cities with the worst air quality on Friday morning, recording an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 157 at 10:10am—classified as “unhealthy.”
Despite the weekend and reduced traffic, pollution levels remained high. Riyadh, Lahore, and Manama followed Dhaka with AQI scores of 153, 152, and 143, respectively.
Air pollution has long plagued Dhaka, with conditions typically worsening in winter.
The AQI measures pollutants including PM2.5, PM10, NO2, CO, SO2, and ozone.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), air pollution causes around seven million deaths globally each year.
