Subrata Bain, one of Bangladesh’s most wanted underworld figures, along with his second-in-command, Mullah Masud were reportedly arrested in Kushtia this morning (May 27), though authorities have yet to officially confirm the development.

Law enforcement sources said local police in Kushtia detained a man believed to be Bain, a fugitive with a long record of involvement in organized crime and alleged links to arms trafficking and extortion networks.

Two pistols, four magazines and 10 rounds of bullets were seized from them.

Residents of Kushtia city said that from 5 am to 8 am, army members surrounded a three-storey house next to the Sonar Bangla Mosque in Kalishankarpur area. 

According to them, at least five army vehicles took part in the operation. The ground floor and surrounding areas of the house were searched for a long time. The house where the operation was conducted is owned by local Mir Mohiuddin. College and university students live on the second and third floors of the house on rent.

Lieutenant Colonel Mahbubul Alam of the army in Kushtia said that the Dhaka team has arrested the two and taken them to the capital. They do not have information in Kushtia.

Bain, once a key figure in Dhaka's criminal underworld, has been on the run for several years. 

He is wanted in connection with multiple cases involving serious crimes, including murder, abduction, and illegal weapons possession.
