Members of Chattogram police recovered a body of an elderly man from a pile of garbage in the city’s Chawkbazar area on Monday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Abul Hashem Hasu, 60, a resident of Paschim Goli in the same area. He was unmarried and reportedly mentally unstable, according to police.

Chawkbazar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Zahedul Kabir said the body was found lying face-down in a garbage pile at the entrance of Chandanpura Access Road.

Family members later identified the body.

Hashem went out on Sunday night and did not return home, police said.

The body has been sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) morgue for autopsy to determine the cause of death.
