National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chairman Md Abdur Rahman Khan has acknowledged that the ongoing movement by NBR officials and employees is affecting the country’s revenue collection efforts.
He said on Thursday (June 26) while addressing a seminar at the Economic Reporters’ Forum (ERF) auditorium in the capital’s Purana Paltan area.
NBR chief said: "Only two days remain June month will start. I am monitoring the revenue situation every moment. Until yesterday, we have collected Tk 3.53 trillion in taxes."
The seminar, titled “Food Security and VAT for Marginalized Communities,” was organized by the Youth Policy Network.
NBR chairman said Bangladesh’s GDP growth has slowed this year.
“I still expect significant growth will come in revenue compared to the previous fiscal year,” he said.
However, he admitted that the officials’ protest is hampering collections to some extent.
He said that the government will sit with NBR officers and employees today to hold talks on the matter.
“We are hopeful that a resolution will come out of today’s discussion,” he added.
