Foreign Affairs Adviser M Tawhid Hossain has said that the proposal regarding opening of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) office in Dhaka is still at the draft stage.
He came up with the development while speaking to journalists at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday (July 3).
The Adviser said, “The exchange of initial drafts has been completed. A full draft will follow soon. Once the final draft is prepared, there won’t be any scope to change even a single word. Only then, we will sign it and be able to give details.”
When asked about the appointment of the next UN Resident Coordinator to Bangladesh, the adviser clarified that the government has not yet started the ‘agrément’ process — a required step to formally approve the nominee. “Once the process starts, we will look into it,” he said.
