DHAKA: Eight women migrant workers, who worked as housemaid in Jordan, came back home Sunday night as they were tortured and given payment less than their contacts there.

The workers burst into tears before their relatives when they arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 9:00pm Sunday.

The returned workers are: Firoza Begum of Sorail village of Manikganj district, Popi Akhter of Barburi of Netrokona, Aynamoti Begum of Kamrangirchar of Dhakam Ambia Akther of Kuliyacahar of Kishorganj and Moriam Begum of Rupganj of Narayanganj.

Moriam’s uncle Suruj Mian told banglanews “His niece went to Jordan eight months ago, she didn’t managed to send money home enough that time even I heard that the house owner tortured her much that is why she came back.”

Many girls of his area went abroad but only Moriam came back, Suruj added.

Back home for the housemaids is not anew.

Earlier, several maids returned home from Hong Kong. One in five of the 270 Bangladeshis who had taken jobs as domestic help in the city since May 2013 were returned home, according to South China Morning Post.
