DHAKA: Prime Minster Sheikh Hasina handed over the prestigious Swadhinata Padak 2014 at a colorful ceremony in the city Tuesday morning.
 
Nine individuals and an organization were honoured with this year’s award for their glorious and outstanding contribution in nation level to the greater interest of the county.

Of the awardees, eight individuals got the award in posthumous.

Former lawmaker M Abul Khayer, Munshi Kabir Uddin Ahmed, Shahid Kazi Azizul Islam, Lt Col M Abu Osman Chowdhury, Dr Khasruzzaman Chowdhury, Shahid SBM Mizanur Rahman, Dr Haris Ali and Professor M Quamruzzaman were awarded in posthumous.

On the other hand, artist Qaiyum Chowdhury and Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) got the award for their outstanding contribution.

The awardees were given a gold medal weighing 50 grams, Tk 2 lakhs and an honorary citation each.

The function began at 10:34am. Cabinet Secretary Muhammad Musharraf Hossain Bhuiyan moderated the programme.
