Re-voting ends, counting on

DHAKA: Re-voting to the 14 postponed polling centers in seven upazilas in six districts ended on Thursday afternoon amid tight security.

The polls began at 8:00am and continued till 4:00pm at a stretch.

Voters exercised their franchise on three posts in Muktagachha and casting ballots for male vice-chairman post only in Gauripur.

Earlier, the Election Commission had postponed voting to the polling centers at Bandhogoyalia Government Primary School, Shaheed Muktijoddha Government Primary School, Tarati Taeripara Government Primary School of Muktagachha upazila following clashes between the supporters of candidates backed by Awami League and Bangladesh Nationalists Party (BNP) on March 15 during the 3rd phase of fourth upazila elections.

Polls at Valikapur Government Primary School, Shalishohor Government Primary School and Poultrypara Government Primary School centers of Gauripur upazila were also postponed due to clashes.

Besides, the voters cast ballots at two centers under Haziganj upazila of Chandpur, three polling centers of Hizla upazila of Barisal, one at Kamalnagar of Laxmipur district, one at Titas upazila of Comilla.
