The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has issued a storm alert for seven regions, warning of gusty winds with speeds of 45–60 km/h, along with rain or thunderstorms. River ports in these areas have been instructed to hoist cautionary signal number one.
Assistant meteorologist Afroza Sultana said that the regions likely to be affected include Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Cumilla, Chattogram, and Cox’s Bazar. These areas may experience temporary squalls and showers driven by winds from the south or southeast.
In another bulletin, the met office noted that due to active monsoon conditions and significant pressure differences over the northern Bay of Bengal, squally weather may affect coastal areas, the Bay itself, and adjacent sea ports.
As a result, sea ports in Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla, and Payra have been asked to hoist local cautionary signal number three.
Fishing boats and trawlers in the northern Bay have been advised to proceed with caution and stay near the coast until further notice.
