DHAKA: US Ambassador to Bangladesh Dan W Mozena attended South Asia Women’s Entrepreneurship symposium at a city hotel on Tuesday.
Expressing his greetings to the hardworking and enthusiastic women entrepreneurs, the US envoy’s stated that the women entrepreneurs of South Asia especially of Bangladesh have been earning success overcoming serious hurdles.
He also said the women are ensuring a better life now by investing and working hard in their community. They have proved themselves powerful, treasured and valued.
Recalling Malick, a woman entrepreneur who lives in Jessore district of southwestern Bangladesh, Mozena said "A woman who wants to be more … a woman who wants to do more … a woman who wants to build a better life for her family and for herself”.
Mozena highlighted the case study of Malick and said that taking loan she bought a machine to make fertilizer briquettes, called guti fertilizer.
“Malick became a successful businesswoman, she paid off her loan and she became a pillar of her community. She is a woman of confidence, a woman who commands respect, a woman treasured and valued by the men and women of her village”, he added.
The envoy encouraged women to go forward to make their dreams true.
According to him, each of women determined to forge a new life for her family, her community, herself.
Praising the entrepreneurs of Bangladesh he further said that women are the backbone of their families, their communities and their nations.
Mozena also said, “I have undertaken a campaign to visit each of the country’s sixty four districts so I can see firsthand the magic, the vitality, the wonder of the amazing people of this country, most especially the women”.
He also showed his gratitude to State Minister for Women and Children Affairs Meher Afroze Chumki, President of the Bangladesh Federation of Women Entrepreneurs Rokia Rahman and others.
