DHAKA: Communications Minister Obaidul Quader on Wednesday categorically said that the fare of CNG-run auto-rickshaws would not increase.
The minister came up with the disclosure after a meeting with the leaders of Dhaka Metropolitan CNG Auto-Rickshaw Malik Samity Oikya Parishad at secretariat in the noon.
“The fare won’t rise right now. Existing rate of fare will continue,” he said.
Leaders of the Oikya Parishad demanded to increase the economy life of auto-rickshaws to 15-year in stead of 11-year.
The Awami League leader said over hauling of auto-rickshaw engines and new seat covers has to be checked from approved workshops according to the directions of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET).
It also has to be ensured that the auto-rickshaws run on metre, he added.
Obaildul said a seven-member committee, four from owners’ samity and three from BRTA, will be formed to implement the conditions laid down by BUET.
Quader also said that the committee will decide within 10-day, which organization will issue economy life certificates.
He added that BRTA will take steps about harassment of passengers.
