DHAKA: A teenager committed suicide after she got upset over “eve teasing” in East Jurain area under Kadamtali Thana in the city on Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Shuva Akhter, 17, daughter of one Sohrab Bepari, hailed from Shibchar upazila of Madaripur district.

Deceased’s brother-in-law M Liton Mia told banglanews that a local boy, Shawlin, used to harass Shuva on her way to work at a home in East Jurain area as domestic hand.

On Tuesday night, Shawlin along with Masud and other stalkers insulted Shuva and beat her and Shuva locked her door after returning home, he added.

Later, she was found hanging from the ceiling at her room and rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where the doctors declared her dead early Wednesday, he added.

Sub-Inspector of Kadamtali Thana Mohammad Motaleb told banglanews that police arrested a person named Masud in this connection.
