DHAKA: Inspector General of Police Hassan Mahmood Khandaker stressed on working together among the police forces of the SAARC countries to prevent the inter-country crimes including militancy.
Hassan was addressing as the chief guest at a certificate giving and closing ceremony of training course titled ‘Transitional Crime: SAARC Perspective’ at Police Staff College (PSC) in the city on Thursday morning with PSC rector Nazmul Haque in the chair.
The IGP said successes in controlling crimes would come, if we managed to work together.
Putting importance on the course, Hasan said “This course will increase the officials’ capacity to face militancy and terrorism, stop drug smuggling, human trafficking, money laundering and entrance of illegal arms into the borders.”
“Additionally, this type of course will extend the cooperation level among the trained senior officials of the SAARC countries in the regional level,” He added.
Hassan said “Same types of crime are seen in the SAARC countries for common geographical border, successes of the course will be brought out, if experiences (of the officials) that have been exchanged here are applied to respective country.”
A total of 18 officials –10 from Bangladesh, 2 from India, Maldives, Nepal Sri Lanka and Bhutan each – enrolled at the course.
