A Dhaka court on Saturday (Sep 13) sent former Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police AKM Nahidul Islam to jail in connection with a case filed with the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT).
A team from the Detective Branch (DB) of police produced him before Metropolitan Magistrate (MM) Dilruba Afroz Tithi, requesting that he be confined in jail until the conclusion of the investigation.
After hearing the prosecution’s statement, the court ordered Nahidul Islam to be sent to jail.
The case against Nahidul Islam was filed at the ICT over allegations of killing the son of a local Jamaat-e-Islami leader while he was serving as Superintendent of Police (SP) of Meherpur district.
Earlier, on August 19, the ICT issued a warrant for his arrest and instructed the police to take him into custody. A DB team arrested him from his Eskaton residence in the early hours of Saturday.
