DHAKA: Condition of former secretary general of BNP Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan, suffering from lung cancer, improved slightly Saturday, said his personal physician Bazlul Gani Bhuiyan.

“The physical condition of Mannan Bhuiyan is now a bit better as the temperature of his body has come down to 98 degree Fahrenheit  from 102,” said Gani to journalists at 11:30am in the city’s Square Hospital.

The physician said the ailing former minister was inhaling more oxygen and now the level of his artificial breathing has come down to 95 from 100 percent.

“But it doesn’t mean that Mannan is free from danger,” he added.

Hospital’s Incentive Care Unit chief Mirza Nazim Uddin also said Mannan’s health condition is better now.

“Doctors are giving their all-out efforts for his recovery,” he added.

Earlier doctors informed the veteran politician was struggling for life.

The senior politician is on life-support system due to his inability to breathe normally. The ailing BNP leader has been undergoing treatment at the Critical Care Unit (CCU) of the Square Hospital since he returned from Singapore on Wednesday evening.

Earlier, the former local government minister flew to Singapore on May 31 for treatment. He had undergone treatment at the Critical Care Unit (CCU) in Singapore National University Hospital. He was given chemotherapy eight times there.

BNP secretary general Khandaker Delwar Hossain, deputy leader of the House Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury, AL advisory council member Tofail Ahmed, former AL general secretary Abdul Jalil and language veteran Abdul Matin had earlier visited Bhuiyan at Square Hospital.
