DHAKA: Detective police sued five people including 3 policemen with Rampura Thana of the capital on Tuesday early over a gold bar misappropriation incident.
A team of Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police lodged the case at 1:30am under the Code of Criminal Procedure Articles no/409/109/114 (Da) and the article no 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947.
Confirming the matter to banglanews, Rampura Thana second officer Mostafizur Rahman said a DB (east) team led by Inspector Fazlul Haque filed the case accusing three cops and two police informants.
The Anti Corruption Commission will investigate into the case.
Rampura Thana Sub-Inspector (SI) Monzuraul Alam was made the prime accused while the others were constables of the Thana – Obaidul and Akash Chudhury, and police informants – Roni and Sajib Sikdar.
All but Sajib are now in police custody.
According to the case statement, SI Monjurul chased a car on March 13 night and seized the car in Balur Maath area of Rampur Bank Colony as the car riders ran away and took it to the police station.
Later police recovered 70 gold bars fro the car on March 17. Police detained car driver Samir Biswash and passenger Mahin in this connection. The duo informed the law enforcing agency that that there were 165 more gold bars inside the vehicle. Police began investigation on suspicion and quizzed the on-duty SI and the constables and the two of their informants.
After interrogation, they admitted that they had removed the gold bars. Police recovered 149 out of 165 gold bars. Of the accused, Sajib is at large now, the statement added.
