DHAKA: Awami League lawmaker Showkat Hossain Hiron passed away at the Apollo Hospital in the capital on Wednesday morning.

He breathed his last at 7:00am.

Barisal Metropolitan Awami League general secretary Afzalul Karim confirmed the matter to banglanews.

He was elected parliament member from Barisal-5 constituency.

He left behind wife, son and daughter and a numbers of followers and well wishers.

Hiron, also the President of Barisal City Awami League and former mayor of Barisal City Corporation, suffered a stroke on March 22 in Barisal Club. Since then he has been kept under life support.

He was first rushed to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital and then shifted to Dhaka Apollo Hospitals as his conditions deteriorated.

Hiron was later flown to Singapore on March 24 by an air ambulance for better treatment.

He was brought back to Dhaka on April 3 as his condition did not improve. He was admitted again to the Apollo Hospitals here on that night.
