SATKHIRA: A man consumed poison in a bid to kill himself after killing his wife at Srimantokati village under Tala upazila of the district early Friday.

The deceased was identified as Rikta Parvin, 25, wife of Mofijul Islam, resident of the area.

Father of the deceased claimed that drug addicted Mofijul used to beat Rikta for long demanding dowry.

Lastly, Mofijul beat Rikta mercilessly on Thursday night and later, strangulated her to death around 3:00am, he added.

Mofijul attempted to commit suicide after killing his wife but failed. However, he was rushed to Tala Health Complex.

Officer-in-Charge of Tala Thana Motiar Rahman confirmed the matter to banglanews.
