KHAGRACHARI: A gas well of Semutang gas field has been added to the national grid at Mahalchari upazila in the district on Saturday afternoon.

The newly added Semutang-6 well will offer some seven million cubic feet gas to the national grid daily.

Project director of the gas field M Abdul Halim confirmed the matter to banglanews.

Meanwhile, some six million cubic feet gas from the Semutang-5 well is being added to the grid daily.

Russian Minerals Extractor Gazprom International began drilling work on the 2,956 metres depth Semutang-6 well on January 21 this year.

It was the fifth of ten planned wells to be constructed by Gazprom under the contracts with BAPEX and BGFCL/SGFL, subsidiaries of state-owned oil and gas corporation PetroBangla.

In this regard, Gazprom singed two agreements in April, 2012.

The Semutang gas field was opened in 1969. Its reserves, according to BAPEX data, are estimated at over 150 billion cubic feet (around 4 billion m3) of gas.
