DHAKA: RAB does not have any specific information about killers of slain journalits Sagor Sarowar and Meherun Runi, says Col Ziaul Ahsan, the Additional Director General of the elite force.
“We are yet to unearth that who were there at the house during the gruesome killings and that how many were they,” he told banglanews over a news item carried out by a section of online news sites in the evening.
Col Zia also expressed his unhappiness over such speculative news quoting unnamed sources.
“None of the RAB force has specific information about the killers. None can give such information without naming him or herself,” he said.
The second man of the elite force called the news a blatant lie.
“The killing of the journalist couple is a sensational case. We got the responsibility of investigation and we are trying our level best to bring the killers to justice,” Col Zia said elaborating the latest state of the investigation.
“Media will come to know as soon as there will be a breakthrough in the investigation,” said the RAB Additional DG.
Sagor Sarowar, News Editor of Maasranga Television and his wife Meherun Runi, a Senior Correspondent of the ATN Bangla, were killed at their Rajabazar residence on February 11, 2012.
The then Home Minister Advocate Sahara Khatun had promised to find out the killers within 48 hours.
As there was no headway, later the RAB got the assignment of investigation into the case.
Col Ziaul Ahsan earlier had told the banglanews24.com that it became a tough job as the evidences were not preserved properly and RAB got the responsibility of investigation after one month of the killing.
However, RAB had been continuing a shadow investigation soon after the news of killing of the journalists came out and the official investigation has been continuing over that.
“We firmly believe that the killers will be identified today or tomorrow,” Col Ziaul Ahsan said adding, “and media will come to know as soon as we will be able to identifiy the killers of Sagor and Runi.”
