No male doctor in rape victims’ test

DHAKA: The High Court on Sunday warned Director General (DG) of Health Department not to allow male doctors in health examination of rape case victims in public hospitals across the country.

An HC bench comprising Justice Kazi Reza-ul-Haque and Justice ABM Altaf Hossain passed the order after clearing the rule.

Advocate SM Rezaul Karim stood for the DG of Health Department while Deputy Attorney General Biswajit Roy moved for the state.

On April 2, the court summoned the director general of health department for not appointing female doctor in health check up of rape case victims.

Following the order, the DG health appeared before the court.

The court said male doctors won’t be allowed to fix the age of any women.

Earlier, a report was published in a national daily where it said that male doctors with male word boy examined the health of rape case victims in Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Later, following the report the court passed order a rule to appoint female doctors, nurses and MLSS and issued a rule why action should not be taken against those who neglect women’s respect.
