Roquibul proposes Bulbul as Nat’l coach

DHAKA: With indications from BCB bosses to bring changes in the national team management, former national opener Roquibul Hassan proposed the name of Aminul Islam Bulbul as national coach.

“We don’t need to set up a `search party’ to look for a cricket coach for the Bangladesh team, Sir,” Roquibul said in an appeal to Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President through a facebook post

“Our home grown boy, Aminul Islam Bulbul, arguably (is) the best young coach and development manager in Asia,” said the former star cricketer.

Roquibul Hassan urged the BCB to give Bulbul at least a two-year contract with total freedom.

“We have tried all, lets have faith in our own product now,” said Roquibul Hassan.

In his 15-year career, Bulbul played 13 Test-matches and 39 ODIs. He was Bangladesh team’s captain in its maiden appearance in World Cup in 1999.

Terming him as one of Bangladesh`s most celebrated cricketers in the pre-Test-status era, Cricinfo said, it was only fitting for Aminul Islam to grind out 145 runs in Bangladesh`s inaugural Test against India in 2000, the second-highest in a nation`s debut after Charles Bannerman`s 165 for Australia in the first official Test match.

He has one century and two 50s in Test career and three half centuries in ODIs, to his credit.
Aminul Islam Bulbul now works for the Asian Cricket Council and is in charge of developing cricket in China.
